Emergency Help Needed - Please Read! [Mar. 7th, 2008|07:33 am]
[mood | sick]

Okay, time for me to swallow my pride and make with the begging.

Here's the situation: The electricity is due to be disconnected. We have some of the money, but not all of it and have basically until Sunday night to raise the rest of it. Somewhere between $100-120 is needed.

Here's what I'm asking: I'm not looking for one person to send me that much money. I know times are hard all around and a number of my friends are living on lean funds themselves. What I AM hoping for is for multiple people to contribute small amounts. If a few people chip in $10 here or $20 there, it'll be just as good.

Here's how you can help: ANY amount you can send our way would be most helpful, even if it is as little as $5 or $10 dollars. Obviously more would help me reach the goal quicker, but beggars can't be TOO choosy. All money would need to be sent via PayPal - we have one of the PayPal Visa cards so any money in the account can be accessed via ATM instead of waiting the usual 2-4 business days for it to transfer to the bank account.

However, because of this limitation, we need any donations to include enough to cover the PayPal fees. For example, if you wanted to help out with $20, you'd need to deposit around $20.90 or so. http://thefeecalculator.com/ will help you figure out how much extra would be needed. It would just suck royally to have $19.10 sitting in the account, unable to be withdrawn because the ATM can only do increments of $20 or whatever.

IF YOU CAN HELP: Please be aware that I am NOT asking for a handout or a free gift. ALL DONATIONS WILL BE REPAID WITHIN THE NEXT MONTH. You have my word on that. I hate asking my friends for help and only do so as a last resort. I hate feeling like a charity case.

Send Money via PayPal to: spookypants13 AT yahoo DOT com

If you're able to help out, leave me a comment, send me an email (ramensnax AT yahoo) or send me an IM on AIM or Yahoo to let me know that you've sent something so I can know to check for it and thank you profusely.

I'm going to go be sick and try to sleep some. Thanks in advance to any of you who can assist with this.

I feel somewhat ashamed that I don't know anything about the majority of the candidates for this year...

I suppose I should take this as an impetus to get my ass in gear and get edumacated before November rolls around. Hrmm...

Post-FurFright Wind-down [Oct. 23rd, 2007|05:30 pm]
[Current Location |On the edge of the bed]
[mood | PCD]
[music |Takala pwning n00bs in TF2]

So, another year, another FurFright has come and gone. I may get around to doing a con-report, but knowing my track record, I wouldn't hold my breath till it shows up...

Got back to New Haven yesterday afternoon, had my unemployment hearing at 1pm in Hamden (cross your fingers that it goes well - I'm super worried) and slogged back home after Wendys for lunch.

[info]li_tak has been hanging here, crashing on our couch last night to rest before he heads back towards Maine tonight. Beyond that, it's just been us hanging out, playing a shit-ton of Team Fortress 2 from The Orange Box and eating foods. I miss the old days of rooming with the Zeeb and it really sucks to only see him a couple times a year now. Mrrf...

Oh well. We'll see what happens.

That's really it for now...

Ja ne!

Ahhh my old, unreliable updates - not like any of you honestly remember me or care anyway.

Made it to FurFright safe and sound after many last minute delays and other misc drama.

In room 207 - track me down if you want or if you don't already have my phone number, leave me a comment.

Gonna try for regular updata throughout the con...let's see how well I actually manage that :P

Finishing packing - as I speak, my ride is probably inbound - going to be on the road in circa 2-3 hours. I'll probably toss a few updates from the con if I quit drinking long enough to find my computer. :P

See you guys there...

Yeah - so I'll fill in the blanks later.

Pre-Post FurFright Wrap-up Showdown Cavalcade Extravaganza [Oct. 25th, 2006|09:40 pm]
[mood | Meh]
[music |The hum of my compy...]

Yeah - still alive...if barely. The pseudo-cold that I've had since this time last week FINALLY seems to be abating somewhat. In retrospect, I think it might have been mild tonsilitis, but I'm not sure. Meh.

So FurFright 2006 is in the books now. Yup. All done. Over. Finished. Ended. Fin. Owari da yo.

...

What? How was it? Seriously? You're asking me?

Right now, I don't have a post-con report in me. I still feel like crap and couldn't coherently sort through the events of the weekend if I tried. Maybe in another day or two. Maybe not at all. Suffice it to say like this: Stuff happened - some good, some bad, mostly disappointing. I spent the whole weekend battling whatever bug was trying to kill me. I still feel bad for not having cash to pay for my part of the room - hopefully Teh Zeeb forgives and will accept it in the next couple weeks via Paypal. He's going to need it for all the trips he's taking. I met a lot of new people - some cool, some not so cool and a couple who were ridiculously uber-cool that I would like to get to know a lot better (you might know who you are...*smirk*)

For now, I go back to praying for a swift death, reading other people's post-FF reports and sifting through pictures. Mrrf.

FurFright Musings [Oct. 10th, 2006|09:37 pm]
[mood | anxious]
[music |"Haruka Kanata" - Asian Kung-Fu Generation]

So the closer FF gets, the more I get anxious. I was at Walgreens today with Zuri browsing through their Halloween stuffs when something occured to me: every year for the last gods-only-knows-how-many years I keep saying "I'm gonna do something this Halloween. Gonna dress up, go to a party, do SOMETHING." and every year, without fail, I do nothing. The closest I got was a few years ago at the local goth club I freqented - I latexed a pair of big horns to my head. That was the closest thing I did to a 'costume'. Year after year pass with plans that never come to fruition.

Now, I find myself on the cusp of a furry Halloween convention - my second furcon and my first BIG Halloween party of ANY kind (not counting the aforementioned goth night - I would have been there were it Halloween or not) - and I wanna do something special, damnit. I don't wanna be just another face there...even if what I do is only something small.

So I'm at an impass. Any of the three or four people who actually read this thing have anything they could throw at me for low-cost costume ideas - fur related or not? Preferably something that won't take me more than *checks calender* a week and a half to pull together? :P

I still live...for what it's worth [Oct. 9th, 2006|01:13 am]
Yikes - been a while since I updated this.

So, updata - I'm still breathing. World of Warcraft has been eating my time and balls lately. Work is work. Sleep is far too infrequent. The usual, more or less.

Also, FurFright 2006 is, I believe, confirmed for me now. Woo! Looks like I may actually see some of you again before next Anthrocon...you've been warned. Make your plans to run and hide now...

PS: My trackball is shitting the bed and it's pissing me off. Well, not the ball itself, but my left mouse button. Grrrrr....

Marathon-a-thon [Aug. 20th, 2006|02:04 am]
The Warriors is finished

*whew*

Phoenix Wright still stands at Case #5, slack-ass that I am. We shall see if any progess gets made there.

Up next? Not sure. Maybe Xenosaga 2 (in prep for Xeno 3 releasing later this month). Maybe Beyond Good & Evil since the end is very near on that one. Or maybe something new will get re-started like I did with The Warriors. Who can tell?

*Sigh* For now though, sleep.

The Marathon: First Milestone [Aug. 9th, 2006|01:10 am]
[mood | tired]
[music |"Health & Theory" - Deadsy]

Halo is done...

*WHEW*

After a condsiderable amount of frustration on my part trying to get Master Chief the fuck OUT of The Pillar of Autumn in his slow-ass, maneuvers-like-a-truck-full-of-fat-kids Warthog before everything went kablooey, I finally managed to escape to an extremely underwhelming ending. Meh. Whatever. It's done. *Tosses case to the side*

Phoenix Wright is coming along. I finished Cases 3 AND 4 and am now beginning the 5th and final case, Rise From The Ashes (a DS exclusive for the US release - for those of you who may not know, Phoenix Wright was originally a GBA title in Japan. The final case, which makes use of the DS' unique features was a bonus done especially for us. Don't you feel pretty now?). More updates on this as they come.

and also...

The Warriors - PS2
Resuming From: The start.

"Waaaaaarriors! Come out and plaaaay-ayyyyy!"

Previously I had made it as far as around Mission 4 or so, but I felt a fresh beginning was probably warranted. I just reached the point tonight where I was the first time I started playing it. 23 total levels I believe, not including the side-missions and etc. I could probably blow through this one in a couple of nights if I wanted to, but I may take enough time to try to unlock all the extras too. We'll see what happens. I might string this one out to a mission or two a night and make it last the rest of the month while I play other stuff as well.

Guh, I would start another RPG or something, but that'd eat the majority of the month right there. I'd love to clear an RPG or two this month, but I'm willing to concede to maybe doing a SINGLE RPG alongside several action/adventure titles. Those don't usually require a MINIMUM 20 hour investment :P. One of those usually dies in about 8-12 hours, give or take.

*Shrug* We'll see what happens. Any suggestions?

Marathon Updata [Jul. 29th, 2006|09:38 pm]
[mood | tired]

We now move into the "Juggling Two Games At Once" portion of our competition.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - DS
Resuming From: The beginning of Case 3, "Turnabout Samurai"

I've spent the last day working on this one. I'm ALMOST at the end of this particular case, which leaves two more to go after that till it's complete.

Meanwhile, back at Halo...

I finished Two Betrayals and am now halfway through the next mission, Keyes. One and a half levels to go till completion. Woo.

The Marathon Begins... [Jul. 27th, 2006|10:38 pm]
[mood |determined]
[music |Halo Theme in the background]

First up on the agenda:

Halo - XBox
Resuming From: Two Betrayals.

I'm all of two+ levels from the end of this blasted thing. I'm not ordinarily a FPS fan, but when I bought my XBox, it became one of those "Let's see what all the hype and hooplah is about" purchases. I actually found it to be rather enjoyable. The controls are precise and tight and while Master Chief may have all the personality of a box of wet noodles, I'm at least curious to see what happens by the end.

Let's see how quick I can end this. Tonight would be nice, if I have the persistance not to just give up and put a DVD in. :P

A Challenge! Marathon Begins Now! [Jul. 27th, 2006|11:14 am]
[mood | optimistic]
[music |"Mr. Brightside" - The Killers]

I like video games.

This comes as no surprise to anybody who knows me. I've been a video game fiend since I was tall enough to see the screens in the arcades back when I was around 4 or so and ever onward.

I have a lot of video games.

This comes as no surprise to anybody who knows me. I work at a freakin' video game store for pete's sake. Mind you, I had plenty before that, but it's only gotten worse in the last year since I've been there.

I rarely finish video games.

This comes as no surprise to anybody who knows me. I very rarely have the focus to see a game through to completion. Of all the games I have on my shelf, I've played maybe half of them and of the half I've played, I've only beaten maybe 1/10th of them...if that much. I just can't seem to sit a game through till the end - I either get distracted by another game, get frustrated at a part I can't get past or just...run out of steam, putting the controller down to never pick it up again till months later when I've forgotten where I am and what I was doing, which causes me to restart the whole damn thing again.

...and so the cycle repeats itself

So...

Last night, while playing Amplitude out of boredom, trying to beat my high scores and unlock the few songs I hadn't yet managed to do...casually blowing away my high scores with a disturbing ease on songs that used to kick my ass...I came to a conclusion. That conclusion was this:

Over the course of say, the next month, I want to try and finish as many games as I can. This will serve two purposes - 1) broadening my knowledge of my work subject so I can make informed comments about the shit I sell and 2) making it so I can't complain that "I have all these damn games and I never finish any of them blah blah blah". And yes, I know that when I start finishing some more of these games that it'll also give me an excuse to buy more games - I'm aware of this and I'm trying not to think about it :P

So, between now and the end of August (yes, I know that's slightly more than a month - I'm cheating a little bit) I'm going to work my ass off to try and end as many of these bastards as I can. This goes for both games that I've partially played and never finished as well as games I've not even begun yet. I'll report back tonight with where I'm beginning and I'll keep a running update on things.

Wish me luck!

*poof*
